Teresa Castillo
Documentary Producer, Videographer & Editor
Teresa is an award-winning Rust Belt-raised Maltese American documentary filmmaker who hails from the story capitals of Detroit, MI and Buffalo, NY and is currently based in Westchester NY. Inspired by the communities she calls home, Teresa's documentary work focuses on women and the interpersonal dynamics of communities and relationships, particularly within families.
A 2018-2019 Bronx Documentary Center film fellow, Teresa screened two short films, each from the perspectives of two parent-poets as they navigate their relationship, co-parenting, and their art. Her most recent film, "I'll Find a Way or Make One — A Rosie Story" debuted at the Buffalo International Film Festival in 2022, where her film won "Best Western New York Short Film". Since then, "I'll Find a Way or Make One" has gone on to win several more awards, including "Best Women's Short" at the Independent Short Awards International Film Festival and "Best US Documentary Short" at the International Manhattan Film Awards.
Teresa holds a B.A. in Documentary Studies from SUNY, University at Albany. She works as a freelance video editor and videographer. She has worked for several clients, including Brut America, YMCA, CleanBoss, Inc., The Beachbody Company, and the Bronx Documentary Center.
Currently, Teresa spends her time between Buffalo and her current home base of Westchester, NY shooting, editing, and opening herself up to new connections, relationships, and story-sharing.
